Two SEAMEO RECFON officials delivered motivational talks during a Seminar on “Opportunities and Challenges of Nutrition Professionals in the Global Society” held on 11 October 2019 to 120 students of Tasikmalaya Health Polytechnic Institute who are pursuing their Nutrition Diploma Program at the Institute’s Cirebon Campus.
Dr Judhiastuty Februhartanty, SEAMEO RECFON’s Knowledge Management and Partnership Unit manager, gave an overview of the current global and regional nutrition situations and targets in relation to Sustainable Development Goal 2 of achieving Zero Hunger by 2030. She emphasized the need for the students to be aware of these global and regional nutrition programs and protocols so that they could properly contribute their knowledge and skills once they become professionals.
SEAMEO RECFON’s Deputy Directof for Program, Dr Jess C. Fernandez, imparted 10 tips to the students on Becoming a Competitive and Responsible Nutrition Professional. He advised the students to practice the soft skills he mentioned and make them as habits which they could bring when they start working professionally. He wrapped up his presentation by encouraging the students to be proud of their chosen profession.
Another speaker during the seminar was Dr Hari Santoso, a lecturer from the Institute’s Nutrition Study Program in Cirebon. He highlighted the nutrition situation and policies in Indonesia and the need for more community nutritionists to achieve the country’s national nutrition development goals. He encouraged the students to take their study program seriously and graduate soon to increase the country’s human capital in the health and nutrition sector.
The seminar was part of the collaboration between SEAMEO RECFON and Poltekkes Tasikmalaya in implementing the Centre’s Nutrition Goes to School Program in four schools in Cirebon City. The team of the Nutrition Study Program in Cirebon of Poltekkes Tasikmalaya serves as the implementers of the Program. (jf)
