A Memorandum of Agreement between SEAMEO RECFON and Yogyakarta Health Polytechnic Institute (Poltekkes-Yogyakarta) signed on 12 October 2019 ushered the collaborative implementation of Nutrition Goes To School (NGTS) Program in Yogyakarta Province. The signing took place after the opening ceremony of Poltekkes-Yogyakarta’s 6th International Conference on Health Sciences held at the Royal Ambarukmo Hotel, Yogyakarta.
The partnership aims to educate school children on proper health and nutrition toward enabling them to become active, well-nourished, and smart citizens through the expertise available in both institutions. Poltekkes-Yogyakarta’s areas of expertise include nutrition, nursing, midwifery, environmental health, dental nursing, and health analysis.
Under this collaboration, both institutions agreed to adopt a specific name for the program in Bahasa Indonesia which is “Sekolah Sehat, Generasi Kuat” or “Healthy School, Strong Generation” in English. The program is being piloted in two primary and two junior secondary schools in Klaten District. A Training of Trainers on the various components of the programs is scheduled to be conducted on 4-7 November 2019 for the teachers of the partner-schools.
The MoA signing was officiated by Dr Agus Hariyanto, SEAMEO RECFON’s Deputy Director for Administration, and Mr. Joko Susilo M.Kes and Dr Iswanto, Director and Vice Director of Poltekkes Yogyakarta, respectively.
The MoA is based on the Memorandum of Understanding between SEAMEO RECFON and the Human Resources for Health Development and Empowerment Agency (Badan Pengembangan dan Pemberdayaan Sumber Daya Manusia Kesehatan –PPSDMK) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (82/RECFON-MoU/IX/2019 and 01.06/2/6470/2019).
