The Directors and staff of the seven SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia welcomed H.E. Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Minister of Education of Singapore, on 18 October 2022 at SEAMEO SEAMOLEC office in Jakarta during his official visit to Indonesia in his capacity as SEAMEO Council President. The purpose of the meeting was to enable the SEAMEC President to get acquainted more about the programs and activities of the seven SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia and explore possible collaborations with them.

The event was highlighted by a video presentation and exhibition of products and promotional materials of the 7 SEAMEO Centres about their respective flagship programs. The seven SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia consist of the Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (BIOTROP), Regional Centre for Early Childhood Education and Parenting (CECCEP), Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Language (SEAQIL), Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Mathematics (SEAQIM), Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Science (SEAQIS), Regional Centre for Food and Nutrition (RECFON), and Regional Centre for Open Learning (SEAMOLEC).

In his speech, the SEAMEC President acknowledged and thanked the seven SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia for their significant contributions to SEAMEO’s Priority Areas in Education and Science. He expressed his intention to work closely with them during his term to further implement SEAMEO’s mandates in the region.

Also present during the meeting were the Director General for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (MoERCT) of Indonesia, the ambassador of Singapore to Indonesia, delegation from the Ministry of Education of Singapore, and the representative from the SEAMEO Secretariat.

Prior to the meeting at SEAMOLEC, H.E. Mr Chan Chun Sing held a bilateral dialogue with the Minister of MoECRT of Indonesia, H.E. Mr. Nadiem Makarim, on the same day.

Indonesia was the second country that H.E. Mr Chan Chun Sing personally visited since he assumed his term of office as the SEAMEC President in June 2021. He conducted his first virtual visit to the Philippines in April 2022 and his first personal visit to Malaysia in July 2022.
