SEAMEO RECFON Contributes to Aksi Bergizi Program launching to improve adolescent nutrition in Indonesia
The endorsement of Peraturan Bupati about Aksi Bergizi Program to improve the nutrition status of adolescent.
In line with its commitment to improve the nutrition status of the school children, SEAMEO RECFON supported the launching of Aksi Bergizi by the Government of West Lombok on 11 October 2019 as the implementing partner of the program with UNICEF.
Aksi Bergizi is a program which aims to overcome double burden of malnutrition in adolescents in Indonesia. The relevance of the program prompted the Government of West Lombok to issue a Governor’s Regulation about it during the launching. This regulation would enable schools to initiate activities to improve the nutrition of the students to be supported by the Government of West Lombok.
Among the activities of Aksi Bergizi program includes nutrition education and establishment of healthy school canteens. These are regular activities that SEAMEO RECFON implements in various school levels in Indonesia since 2016 under its Nutrition Goes to School (NGTS) Program .
The program launching was also attended by the representative of UNICEF Indonesia, Direktur Kesehatan Lingkungan MoH of Indonesia, Direktur Kesehatan Kerja dan Olahraga MoH of Indonesia, Head of Education and Culture District Office of Lombok Barat, Head of Health District Office of Lombok Barat, SEAMEO RECFON Director, and principals and representative teachers and students of the schools involved in the program.
The visit to Pondok Pesantren NU Darussalam Bermi
While in West Lombok after the Aksi Bergizi launching, SEAMEO RECFON Director also visited Pondok Pesantren NU Darussalam Bermi. The visit was an attempt to explore the possibility of initiating the Centre’s NGTS Program for adolescent nutrition improvement in 2020 through Madrasah and Pondok Pesantren. The NGTS Program has been implemented since 2016 among schools under the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. (ATH)
