After its hiatus since 2019, the Southeast Asian Nutrition Leadership Program (SEANLP) is set to return in 2025. This program offers young professionals in the fields of nutrition and health the opportunity to develop leadership skills, broaden their perspectives, and collaborate in addressing the increasingly complex nutritional challenges in Southeast Asia. Organized by SEAMEO RECFON, SEANLP aims to produce nutrition leaders who can bring about positive change in policies, food systems, and public health.
First launched in 2002, SEANLP has brought out over a hundred alumni who are now actively involved in advancing nutrition policies in their respective countries. The program is designed for professionals with a background in nutrition, public health, or related disciplines, and who are committed to implementing the training outcomes in their work after completing the program. Through SEANLP, participants will be equipped with managerial skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to work in cross-sectoral teams to address nutrition and food issues in Southeast Asia.
As quoted by SEANLP co-founder, Prof. Corazon VC Barba from University of Philippines Los Banos, “Together, we can make a difference. Many people advocate, but if you do it alone, it will be very difficult. However, if we join together, and as a group, I am confident that what we want to do, the change we are fighting for in nutrition, will become a reality.” Prof. Barba emphasizes the importance of working together as a group to bring ourselves meaningful change, as collaboration can help us achieve our common goal of improving public health and creating a more sustainable food system.
Amidst the significant challenges faced within food, nutrition, and health, such as climate change, food crises, and inequitable access to healthcare, SEANLP is here to create leaders who are expected to be able to integrate solutions into the development policies. Through intensive training, participants will be introduced to leadership theories and practices, and given the opportunity to interact directly with experts, policymakers, and successful SEANLP alumni who have contributed to national nutrition policies.
The program will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia and will employ a learning format that includes seminars, discussions, and case studies. With a curriculum designed to meet current and future needs, SEANLP provides comprehensive and relevant training for future nutrition leaders.
Registration for SEANLP 2025 will open in early 2025. Prospective participants can access more information through the official SEAMEO RECFON website. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a training program that has graduated many nutrition leaders across Southeast Asia.
