As part of the commitment to support the government priority on nutrition improvement, particularly on stunting reduction, SEAMEO RECFON conducted series of activities in Lombok Timur District, West Nusa Tenggara on July 31 to August 4, 2023. In collaboration with Semarang Health Polytechnic, SEAMEO RECFON held a “Training on Strengthening Local Government Commitment in Stunting Reduction and Nutrition Promotion in Indonesia” on July 31 to August 4, 2023. This training was attended by 30 district government representatives from the Task Force Team for Acceleration of Stunting Reduction (TPPS) of East Lombok and West Lombok Districts. This activity aimed to engage collaboration among stakeholders in addressing stunting problems at the district/city level.
The opening of the training was conducted on July 31, 2023 and attended by oleh Dr. Zainun Misbah, M.Sc (Acting Director of SEAMEO RECFON), Dr. Hj. Sitti Rohmi Djalillah M.Pd (Vice Governor and Chairman of Task Force Team for Acceleration of Stunting Reduction (TPPS) of West Nusa Tenggara), and Teguh Budiharjo, STP, M.Si (Health of Analyst Department, Semarang Health Polytechnic
In his speech, Dr. Zainun Misbah, as Acting Director of SEAMEO RECFON, said that this training could strengthen cross-sector collaboration in supporting the acceleration of stunting reduction in Indonesia.
“This training is expected to strengthen cross-sector collaboration, increase commitment, and improve the capacity of advocacy of the policymakers which as a catalyst in stunting reduction programs in Indonesia,” said Dr. Zainun.
Dr. Zainun also hopes that the training, which has been held since 2022, can continue to be implemented with improved the curriculum and learning methods.
“In addition, with the existence of 2 training batches in 2022 and 2023, we hope to get input from participants. So that, we can improve the existing curriculum and learning methods,” said Dr. Zainun.
Meanwhile, The Vice Governor and Chairman of Task Force Team for Acceleration of Stunting Reduction (TPPS) of West Nusa Tenggara, Dr. Hj. Sitti Rohmi Djalillah M.Pd, in her speech stated that the Posyandu became a center of education for the rural and urban community. Umi Rohmi also mentioned that stunting was not only related to nutritional problems, but also related to environmental and educational factors.
“Stunting is not only about nutrition, but also environmental and educational problems and the solution comes from the Posyandu which integrated with all sectors,” said Umi Rohmi.
Closing her remarks, Umi Rohmi welcomed SEAMEO RECFON’s initiative and supported further coordination. “I hope that this event will be conducted successfully and good luck to all of us, NTB, and SEAMEO always has good communication with the NTB government,” concluded Umi Rohmi.
Furthermore, the training was continued with the material sessions with the resource persons from SEAMEO RECFON, Semarang Health Polytechnic, Monash University Indonesia, and Ministry of Health. The participants was divided into the small groups as part of learning interaction through discussion, plenary presentation, team building, and field visit. The training activity was closed with a Local Government Dialogue attended by the Chairman of TPPS of Lombok Timur and Lombok Barat Districts on August 3, 2023
On August 1, 2023, representatives of SEAMEO RECFON, University of Mataram, and District Government of Lombok Timur visited PAUD Rahmatullah to the implementation of the Early Childhood Care, Nutrition, and Education (ECCNE) Program, and visited research location of Action Against Stunting Hub (AASH) in Sambelia Sub-district, as well as conducted a meeting with the district government in the District Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Office.
Those activities were carried out to monitor the progress of implementation, identify implementation challenges, and discuss the action plans for the sustainability of the cooperation activities in East Lombok District. During the visit to PAUD Rahmatullah, SEAMEO RECFON also had the opportunity to educate on Local Food-based Balanced Nutrition Guidelines (PGS PL) for children under 5 years, as well as distribute the IEC materials to ECCE educators and parents.
Meanwhile, on August 2, 2023, SEAMEO RECFON team conducted a coordination meeting with the University of Mataram (Unram) in order to strengthen and expand cooperation and collaboration with the university. This activity was attended by representatives of Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences (FMIPA), Faculty of Food Technology (FATEPA), and Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Unram. During the meeting, both institutions approved the action plans among institutions for 2023-2024.
The partnership between SEAMEO RECFON and Unram has been established since 2021 which was initiated with the partnership among Action Against Stunting Hub (AASH) and Faculty of Medicine (FK) and Unram Hospital. At the end of 2021, the partnership expanded with the involvement of Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences (FMIPA), Faculty of Food Technology (FATEPA), Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), and Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), with the focus on education, research, and community services on food and nutrition.
